Perhaps you are in the process of choosing new siding for your home, or the siding is in good shape but you wish you could refresh the look. In both cases, you’re in luck. Have you ever heard of siding accessories?

Siding accessories are the flair that finishes up your siding job. The obvious accessories are shutters, gutters, and downspouts, but there’s more! In this article, we will go over some of the siding accessories that can put a polish on your home’s architectural style and make it stand out in the neighborhood.

Get a Shutter Upgrade

Many architectural styles for homes utilize shutters as an integral part of the look. What would a Victorian-style home be without some louver-style shutters? You can also choose from board and batten shutter styles for a more rustic look, or consider a raised panel style that would elevate a colonial-style house.

Available in a wide variety of colors, shutters can add a bold accent or work as a complementary tonal element. If you’re on a budget, you can choose to only add shutters to the street view sides of the house to boost curb appeal.

Add Style with Trim

Trim is the accent piece that frames out windows, doors, archways, and porches. Some Victorian homes will utilize ornate trim pieces to decorate gable ends and corners. Trim goes beyond decoration, however – it can also serve the purpose of rerouting water and moisture away from seams and points where siding elements meet.

Crown molding can add elegance and architectural interest to the exterior of your home by topping columns or lining the creases between wall and roof. Door mantels, surrounds, and other trim elements for posts can instantly upgrade your home’s entryway.

Accent with Gutters and Downspouts

Of course, gutters are there to transport water from the roof and direct it away from the house. Other than functional use, gutters and downspouts can be stylish. Rather than trying to make gutters and downspouts blend in and disappear, you can try using them as a charming accent feature of your home.

Gutters and downspouts are available in a variety of shapes and styles which can be chosen to match the decor of your home. For example, half-round and box-shaped gutters recall a more vintage feel and can be chosen in a variety of colors.

Style with Fascia and Soffit Trims

Fascia is the board that faces outwards and attaches just below the roofline. The fascia covers the joist ends, keeping weather and pests from damaging the roof and attic area. The soffit is the horizontal surface where the roof overhangs the exterior walls of the house.

Both of these areas are perfect for trimming with accessories that add visual interest and style. Fascia trim can create a layered style for more interest or can be solid for a clean, modern look. Different colors can be utilized to draw the eye and create a dramatic roofline accent.

Soffit trim can also create a layered look or mimic natural wood for more visual interest. This is also an opportunity to utilize accent colors to add to the style of your home.
